Description.

  • Type: Epiphytic orchid (grows on trees or mounts, not in soil)

  • Origin: Native to Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia

  • Appearance:

    • Leaves: Long, thick, strap-like, leathery, and bright green. Leaves grow in a fan-like arrangement along a sturdy central stem.

    • Flowers:

      • Large, showy, and trumpet-shaped, often 10–15 cm across.

      • Color is usually yellow with red or purple markings, depending on the variety.

      • Fragrant in some forms, and flowers grow on long upright spikes.

    • Size: One of the largest Vanda-type orchids; mature plants can reach 1–2 meters in height with long hanging roots.

  • Growth habit: Monopodial (grows upward from a single central stem) and fast-growing under optimal tropical conditions. Needs strong support if grown in a basket due to its weight.

Care Guide

1. Light:

  • Requires bright, filtered light, ideally 50–70% sunlight.

  • Can tolerate some direct morning sun but avoid harsh midday sun.

  • Indoors, place near a south- or east-facing window with bright, indirect light.

2. Temperature:

  • Day: 75–90°F (24–32°C)

  • Night: 65–75°F (18–24°C)

  • Cannot tolerate frost; sensitive to temperatures below 55°F (13°C).

3. Humidity:

  • Prefers 70–90% humidity.

  • Mist frequently in dry climates or use a humidity tray/fogger.

  • Good air circulation is essential to prevent fungal or bacterial infections.

4. Watering:

  • Water thoroughly, ensuring roots dry slightly between waterings.

  • During hot, humid periods, water 3–4 times per week; reduce in cooler or less humid seasons.

  • Avoid stagnant water in the roots.

5. Fertilizer:

  • Use a high-quality orchid fertilizer (20-20-20) at ½ strength every week during active growth.

  • Reduce feeding during cooler or slower growth periods.

6. Mounting/Potting:

  • Can be grown in hanging baskets, mounted on cork or tree fern slabs, or in pots with very coarse bark/charcoal media.

  • Roots should have excellent air circulation.

7. Flowering:

  • Blooms in late spring or summer.

  • Flowers appear on long upright spikes from the leaf axils and can last 2–3 weeks under good condition

Yes – we ship every week of the year! However, in the case of extreme weather conditions or emergency situations (e.g. flooding/fires that would interupt couriers), we may delay shipping until it is safe to ship.

How long will it take to recieve my order?

We always choose overnight or express shipping options. Once shipped, most orders arrive in 1-2 days in Canada and the USA. Depending on your location, shipping might take longer. Occassionally, customs clearance might take an additional day.

We ship orders from our store or specialized grow facility in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Do I recieve a tracking number?

A tracking number will be emailed to you once your order has shipped. You can also find your order and tracking information under your account.

We will gladly accept returns for a refund, provided the items and plants have not been damaged, propogated, or repotted. Returned plants are subject to a 10% restocking fee, due to the recovery care needed for returned plants, and shipping/permit costs are nonrefundable. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs as well as all paperwork required to ship back to Canada (e.g. phytosanitary certificates).
