Tillandsia xerographica, often referred to as the "King of Air Plants," is a striking epiphytic bromeliad native to southern Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador. This species is renowned for its large, silvery-green rosette of gracefully curling leaves, which can span up to 3 feet in diameter. In its natural habitat, T. xerographica thrives in arid environments, relying on its trichome-covered leaves to absorb moisture and nutrients from the air.

Care Guidelines:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight but can tolerate some direct sun. Insufficient light may lead to diminished growth and color vibrancy.

  • Watering: Due to its xerophytic nature, T. xerographica requires less frequent watering than other air plants. A thorough soak every 2-3 weeks is typically sufficient. After soaking, ensure the plant dries completely to prevent rot.

  • Humidity: Adapts well to various humidity levels but thrives in environments with moderate humidity. In drier settings, occasional misting can be beneficial.

  • Temperature: Optimal growth occurs between 60°F and 80°F (16°C to 27°C). The plant is sensitive to frost and should be protected from temperatures below 50°F (10°C).

  • Fertilization: Monthly application of a diluted, bromeliad-specific fertilizer during the growing season can promote health and vigor.
