The Scindapsus Lakambini Variegated is a rare and elegant tropical plant that has captured the hearts of collectors and plant enthusiasts alike. Its name, "Lakambini," is derived from the Filipino word meaning "noblewoman" or "lady," symbolizing grace and beauty. This plant is celebrated for its stunning variegated foliage, which features a mix of golden yellow, lime green, and creamy white hues on large elongated leaves. Native to Southeast Asia, the Scindapsus Lakambini is a perfect addition to any indoor plant collection, offering both aesthetic appeal and a touch of cultural significance.

Plant Characteristics

  • Foliage: The Scindapsus Lakambini Variegated boasts long, heart-shaped leaves with striking variegation. New leaves often emerge in a light golden yellow hue, which gradually fades to a softer yellow or creamy white as they mature. The variegation patterns are unique to each leaf, making every plant one of a kind. The leaves are glossy and slightly textured, adding to their visual appeal.
  • Growth Habit: This plant is a climbing or trailing vine, making it ideal for hanging baskets, shelves, or trellises. Its growth habit allows it to cascade gracefully or climb when given support, adding vertical interest to any space. Mounting to a moss pole or plant will enable the plant to grow extremely large leaves.
  • Variegation: The variegation in the Scindapsus Lakambini is stable and vibrant, with lime green, golden yellow, and creamy white tones. Bright indirect light enhances the variegation, ensuring the plant maintains its robust colors.

Care Instructions

The Scindapsus Lakambini Variegated is relatively easy to care for, provided its basic needs are met. It thrives in conditions that mimic its natural tropical environment.

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light to maintain the vibrant variegation. While it can tolerate medium light, insufficient light may cause the variegation to fade. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
  • Watering: Allow the top 2–3 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the pot has proper drainage. During the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently, but reduce watering in the fall and winter.
  • Humidity: This tropical plant thrives in moderate to high humidity levels, ideally around 50–70%. If your home is dry, consider misting the plant, using a pebble tray, or placing it near a humidifier.
  • Temperature: Keep the plant in a warm environment, ideally between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Avoid exposing it to temperatures below 55°F (13°C) or cold drafts, as these can harm the plant.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining soil mix, such as one designed for aroids. A mix of orchid bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss works well to provide aeration and prevent waterlogging.
  • Fertilizer: Feed your Scindapsus Lakambini Variegated with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season. Reduce feeding in the fall and winter when the plant’s growth slows.
  • Support: As a climbing plant, it benefits from a moss pole or trellis to support its growth and encourage larger, healthier leaves.
