Pinguicula primuliflora, commonly known as the Southern Butterwort or Primrose Butterwort, is a captivating carnivorous plant native to the southeastern United States. This species is celebrated for its unique method of obtaining nutrients through insect capture, making it a fascinating addition to any plant collection.

Key Characteristics:

  • Foliage: The plant forms a rosette of pale-green, pointed leaves up to four inches across. These leaves are covered with glandular hairs that secrete a sticky substance, enabling the plant to trap and digest small insects.

  • Flowers: Pinguicula primuliflora produces solitary, pale purple flowers with a white center and a yellow beard. The flowers are bilaterally symmetrical, with the calyx being two-lipped.

Cultivation and Care:

  • Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate some direct sunlight, excessive exposure may cause leaf burn.

  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the pot has proper drainage.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining, acidic potting mix, such as one formulated for carnivorous plants.

  • Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 50°F to 85°F (10°C to 29°C). Protect from drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

  • Humidity: Average indoor humidity is sufficient. If the air is very dry, occasional misting can help.

How long will it take to recieve my order?

We always choose overnight or express shipping options. Once shipped, most orders arrive in 1-2 days in Canada and the USA. Depending on your location, shipping might take longer. Occassionally, customs clearance might take an additional day.

We ship orders from our store or specialized grow facility in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Do I recieve a tracking number?

A tracking number will be emailed to you once your order has shipped. You can also find your order and tracking information under your account.

What's the process to return an item if I decide I don'twant it?

We will gladly accept returns for a refund, provided the items and plants have not been damaged, propogated, or repotted. Returned plants are subject to a 10% restocking fee, due to the recovery care needed for returned plants, and shipping/permit costs are nonrefundable. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs as well as all paperwork required to ship back to Canada (e.g. phytosanitary certificates).
