Philodendron lynamii is a rare and striking species native to Tarapoto, Peru, named after plant collector Ralph Lynam. This philodendron is distinguished by its large, heart-shaped leaves that start with a vibrant pink hue, gradually transitioning to deep green as they mature. The undersides of the leaves often display a subtle pink tint, adding to its ornamental appeal.

Key Characteristics:

  • Foliage: The leaves are large, glossy, and heart-shaped, with a pinkish hue on the underside. As they mature, the leaves become more elongated and the pink coloration fades to green.

  • Growth Habit: Philodendron lynamii is a terrestrial species, meaning it grows on the ground rather than climbing. It can spread horizontally, forming a dense ground cover.

Care Requirements:

  • Light: Prefers medium to bright indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, so it's best to place it near a window with filtered light.

  • Watering: Allow the top half of the soil to dry out before watering. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the pot has proper drainage.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining mix, such as a combination of orchid bark, potting compost, and perlite, to promote healthy root development.

  • Temperature: Ideal temperatures range from 64°F to 81°F (18°C to 27°C). Protect from drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

  • Humidity: Thrives in humidity levels of 60% or higher. Regular misting or placing the pot on a humidity tray can help maintain the necessary moisture.
