The Hoya 'New Guinea Ghost' is a captivating cultivar of Hoya nicholsoniae, renowned for its distinctive silver-hued foliage. Discovered in Papua New Guinea, this plant has gained popularity among houseplant enthusiasts for its unique appearance and relatively easy care requirements.

Key Features:

  • Foliage: The leaves are thick, succulent, and exhibit a silvery-gray coloration with subtle green undertones. Under bright light conditions, the foliage may develop pink or purple hues, adding to its visual appeal.

  • Growth Habit: This Hoya has a vining nature, making it suitable for hanging baskets or trellises. It can reach lengths of several feet, depending on growing conditions.

  • Flowers: While primarily grown for its foliage, the 'New Guinea Ghost' can produce clusters of small, star-shaped flowers. These blooms are typically pale pink or creamy white and emit a mild fragrance.

Cultivation and Care:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Exposure to direct sunlight can enhance the silvery coloration but may also risk leaf burn if not monitored.

  • Watering: Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's essential to ensure proper drainage.

  • Soil: Thrives in a well-draining potting mix, such as a combination of orchid bark, perlite, and peat moss.

  • Temperature and Humidity: Favors temperatures between 60°F to 85°F (15°C to 29°C) and benefits from moderate to high humidity levels.

  • Fertilization: During the growing season (spring and summer), apply a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer monthly to encourage healthy growth.
