Ficus triangularis 'Variegata', commonly known as the Variegated Triangle Fig, is a striking houseplant admired for its unique triangular leaves adorned with creamy white and green variegation. This member of the Moraceae family is native to tropical regions of Africa and is closely related to the fiddle-leaf fig (Ficus lyrata).

Key Characteristics:

  • Foliage: The plant features thick, waxy, triangular leaves with distinctive variegation patterns, making each leaf unique. The combination of green and creamy white hues adds a decorative touch to indoor spaces.

  • Growth Habit: When young, it serves as a delightful addition to a brightly lit desk or tabletop. As it matures, it slowly grows into a tree and can reach 6 feet or more indoors.

Care Requirements:

  • Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate medium light, insufficient light may cause the plant to lose its variegation, appear dull, and drop leaves. Placing it near an east-facing or west-facing window is ideal.

  • Watering: Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the pot has adequate drainage. During winter, reduce watering frequency as the plant's growth slows.

  • Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity levels but is adaptable to average household humidity. Regular misting or placing the plant on a humidity tray can help maintain optimal moisture.

  • Temperature: Ideal temperatures range between 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Protect from drafts and sudden temperature changes.

  • Soil: Requires well-draining soil. A mix designed for houseplants or a combination of potting soil with perlite or sand works well.
