The Variegated Weeping Fig (Ficus benjamina 'Variegata') is a popular houseplant known for its elegant, arching branches and glossy leaves adorned with creamy white or yellow margins. While it adds a touch of sophistication to indoor spaces, it requires specific care to thrive.

Light: Place your Variegated Weeping Fig in a location with bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light may cause the variegation to fade. A spot near a window with filtered light is ideal.

Watering: Maintain evenly moist soil by watering when the top inch feels dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot, and underwatering may cause leaf drop. Consistency is key; avoid letting the soil become soggy or completely dry.

Temperature and Humidity: This plant thrives in temperatures between 60°F and 75°F (15°C to 24°C) and appreciates higher humidity levels. To increase humidity, consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray with water. Keep it away from drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a soil-based mix containing perlite, sand, or vermiculite to improve drainage.

Fertilization: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your plant monthly with a balanced, liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding during fall and winter when growth slows.

Pruning: Regular pruning helps maintain the desired shape and size of your Variegated Weeping Fig. Use sterilized shears to remove any dead or overgrown branches. Pruning can also encourage bushier growth.

Repotting: Repot your plant every two to three years or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a pot slightly larger than the current one with good drainage. Handle the roots gently during the process to minimize stress.

Pests and Diseases: Monitor for common pests such as mealybugs, spider mites, thrips, and scale. If detected, treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Maintaining proper watering practices can prevent issues like root rot.

Leaf Drop: It's normal for the Variegated Weeping Fig to drop leaves when adjusting to new environments or due to changes in light, temperature, or humidity. To minimize leaf drop, keep the plant in a stable environment and avoid moving it frequently.
