Dracaena marginata 'Kiwi', commonly known as the Kiwi Dragon Tree, is a striking houseplant celebrated for its vibrant, variegated foliage. This cultivar features slender, arching leaves with green centers, creamy-yellow stripes, and red margins, creating a visually appealing display.

Light Requirements: The Kiwi Dragon Tree thrives in bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate lower light conditions, insufficient light may cause the vibrant leaf variegation to fade. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.

Watering: Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's essential to ensure the plant is not left sitting in water. During the winter months, reduce watering frequency, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings.

Humidity and Temperature: This plant prefers average household humidity levels and thrives in temperatures between 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C). It is sensitive to cold drafts and should be kept away from air conditioning vents or open windows during colder months.

Soil and Fertilization: Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a combination of peat, pine bark, and perlite. Fertilize monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength. No feeding is needed during the winter months.

Pruning and Maintenance: Prune to remove dead or yellowing leaves and to maintain the desired shape. Regular pruning can encourage a bushier growth habit. The plant is relatively slow-growing, so pruning is typically minimal.

Propagation: The Kiwi Dragon Tree can be propagated through stem cuttings. Take a 3-4 inch cutting from a healthy stem, remove the lower leaves, and place the cutting in water or moist potting mix until roots develop. Once rooted, transplant the cutting into a pot with well-draining soil.

Pest and Disease Management: Common pests include spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects. Regularly inspect the plant and treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. To prevent fungal issues, avoid overwatering and ensure good air circulation around the plant.

By following these care guidelines, the Dracaena marginata 'Kiwi' can thrive, adding a touch of tropical elegance to your indoor space.
