Description

  • Growth habit: Terrestrial, creeping to clumping, with short rhizomes.

  • Leaves: Velvety, dark green to deep olive, often with a faint sheen or subtle veining. Leaves are oval to elliptic and held close to the forest floor.

  • Flowers: Small, delicate, and not flashy; usually pale (whitish to greenish) with a narrow lip (the name stenoglossa means “narrow tongue”). Flowers are borne on short, upright inflorescences.

  • Habitat in nature: Shaded, humid rainforest understory, often in leaf litter or mossy soil.

Care Guide

Light

  • Low to medium, indirect light

  • Bright shade is ideal (similar to what you’d give jewel orchids or Phalaenopsis kept away from windows).

  • Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Temperature

  • Warm-growing

  • Ideal range: 18–28 °C (65–82 °F)

  • Avoid temperatures below ~15 °C (59 °F).

Humidity

  • High humidity is essential (70–90%)

  • Best grown in a terrarium, orchid case, or very humid room.

  • Ensure airflow to prevent fungal issues.

Watering

  • Keep the medium evenly moist, never dry for long.

  • Water with soft, room-temperature water.

  • Do not allow the plant to sit in soggy conditions—gentle drainage is important.

Growing Medium

  • A fine, moisture-retentive but airy mix, such as:

    • Fine orchid bark or coco chips

    • Chopped sphagnum moss

    • Leaf mold or humus

    • Perlite for airflow

  • This mimics forest floor conditions.

Fertilizing

  • Feed lightly during active growth.

  • Use a dilute orchid fertilizer (ÂĽ strength) every 2–4 weeks.

  • Flush with plain water occasionally to prevent salt buildup.

Repotting

  • Repot only when the medium breaks down or the plant outgrows its container.

  • Best done in warm seasons when growth is active.

Rest Period

  • No strong dormancy, but growth may slow slightly in cooler or drier months.

  • Reduce fertilizer slightly during slower growth.

FAQs

Do you ship year-round?

Yes – we ship every week of the year! However, in the case of extreme weather conditions or emergency situations (e.g. flooding/fires that would interupt couriers), we may delay shipping until it is safe to ship.

How long will it take to recieve my order?

We always choose overnight or express shipping options. Once shipped, most orders arrive in 1-2 days in Canada and the USA. Depending on your location, shipping might take longer. Occassionally, customs clearance might take an additional day.

Where do products ship from?

We ship orders from our store or specialized grow facility in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Do I recieve a tracking number?

A tracking number will be emailed to you once your order has shipped. You can also find your order and tracking information under your account.

What's the process to return an item if I decide I don'twant it?

We will gladly accept returns for a refund, provided the items and plants have not been damaged, propogated, or repotted. Returned plants are subject to a 10% restocking fee, due to the recovery care needed for returned plants, and shipping/permit costs are nonrefundable. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs as well as all paperwork required to ship back to Canada (e.g. phytosanitary certificates).
