Key features:

  • Growth habit: Epiphytic, sympodial growth with clustered pseudobulbs

  • Pseudobulbs: Ovoid to cylindrical, slightly compressed, each bearing 2–3 leaves

  • Leaves: Glossy, lanceolate, leathery, and dark green

  • Flowers: Large, showy, usually white to pale cream with a yellow or orange lip, often with subtle markings

  • Inflorescence: Long, arching, can carry multiple flowers (4–10+ per spike)

  • Fragrance: Mild to sweet

  • Blooming season: Usually in late winter to spring

  • Natural habitat: Humid forests, often growing on trees at medium elevations

This species is ideal for intermediate growers who can provide bright, humid conditions and enjoy striking floral displays.

Care Guide: Coelogyne usitana

 Light

  • Bright, filtered light is best

  • Avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch leaves

  • Can tolerate moderate shade

 Temperature

  • Intermediate to warm-growing

  • Day: 22–28°C (72–82°F)

  • Night: 16–20°C (60–68°F)

  • Avoid temperatures below 14°C (57°F)

 Humidity

  • High humidity (60–80%) is ideal

  • Use trays, humidifiers, or greenhouses if natural humidity is low

Air Movement

  • Needs good air circulation, especially in high humidity, to prevent fungal and bacterial infections

 Watering

  • Water frequently during active growth, keeping the medium moist but not soggy

  • Reduce watering slightly after flowering or during cooler months, but do not let pseudobulbs shrivel

Mounting & Potting

  • Potting: Medium-sized pots with coarse bark, tree fern fiber, or sphagnum mix

  • Mounting: Can also be mounted on cork or tree fern for display, but will require regular misting

Fertilizer

  • Feed lightly with balanced orchid fertilizer (¼–½ strength) during active growth

  • Fertilize every 1–2 weeks and flush with plain water monthly to prevent salt buildup

Blooming Tips

  • Maintain stable humidity and bright filtered light

  • Allow for slightly cooler, drier conditions after flowering to mimic natural seasonal variation

  • Avoid moving plants when buds are forming, as they are sensitive

How long will it take to recieve my order?

We always choose overnight or express shipping options. Once shipped, most orders arrive in 1-2 days in Canada and the USA. Depending on your location, shipping might take longer. Occassionally, customs clearance might take an additional day.

We ship orders from our store or specialized grow facility in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Do I recieve a tracking number?

A tracking number will be emailed to you once your order has shipped. You can also find your order and tracking information under your account.

What's the process to return an item if I decide I don'twant it?

We will gladly accept returns for a refund, provided the items and plants have not been damaged, propogated, or repotted. Returned plants are subject to a 10% restocking fee, due to the recovery care needed for returned plants, and shipping/permit costs are nonrefundable. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs as well as all paperwork required to ship back to Canada (e.g. phytosanitary certificates).
