Calathea White Star, a cultivar of Calathea ornata, is a tropical plant celebrated for its striking, striped foliage. Native to the tropical rainforests of South America, this plant is a showstopper in any indoor collection, thanks to its unique variegation and elegant appearance.

Key Features:

1. Foliage: Long, lance-shaped leaves with a base of pale green to creamy white, adorned with delicate pink and white stripes that radiate outward. The undersides are a soft purple, adding a beautiful contrast.

2. Size: Typically grows to 45-60 cm (18-24 inches) tall, making it a compact choice for indoor spaces.

3. Growth Habit: Upright, clumping growth with lush, dense foliage.

Care Tips:

1. Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its vibrant stripes. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while low light may reduce the vibrancy of its colors.

2. Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging. Use filtered or distilled water, as the plant is sensitive to fluoride and chlorine in tap water.

3. Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (60-80%). Use a humidifier, mist regularly, or place the plant near a pebble tray with water to maintain moisture levels.

4. Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 18-26°C (65-80°F). Protect from drafts and avoid exposure to temperatures below 15°C (59°F).

5. Soil: Requires a well-draining potting mix. A combination of peat moss, perlite, and standard potting soil works well.

6. Fertilizer: Feed with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).

7. Pruning: Remove yellowing or damaged leaves to encourage healthy growth and maintain a tidy appearance.

Additional Notes:

Prayer Plant Behavior: Like other Calatheas, the leaves fold upward in the evening and reopen during the day, showcasing its unique movement.

Pest Management: Monitor for common pests like spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids. Regular cleaning of the leaves and maintaining high humidity helps prevent infestations.

Non-Toxic: Safe for pets and humans, making it a pet-friendly option.

Calathea White Star’s soft, pastel-like variegation and graceful form make it a favorite for plant lovers seeking a sophisticated yet low-maintenance tropical plant. Its ability to brighten indoor spaces makes it a standout addition to any collection.
