Barbosella cucullata xanthina is a miniature orchid, notable for its compact size and unique flower coloration. The term "xanthina" refers to a yellow-flowered form of the species, distinguishing it from the more typical coloration found in Barbosella cucullata.

Description

  • Flowers: The 'xanthina' form is characterized by its yellow flowers, a rare and desirable trait among collectors. The flowers are small and hooded, typical of the genus.
  • Environment: Naturally found in cool to cold, moist cloud forests, making it well-suited for terrarium or cool greenhouse culture.

Cultivation Tips

  • Light: Prefers low to moderate, filtered light.
  • Temperature: Cool to cold growing, though some growers report success in cool to intermediate conditions.
  • Humidity: High humidity is essential, mimicking its native cloud forest habitat.
  • Water: Keep the medium consistently moist but well-drained; do not allow to dry out completely.
  • Mounting: Can be grown mounted or in small pots with a fine, moisture-retentive medium.
