Anoectochilus ‘Leyli Brown’ Hybrid is a stunning jewel orchid hybrid, celebrated for its rich, velvety foliage and intricate veining. As with other jewel orchids in the Anoectochilus genus, this plant is primarily grown for its spectacular leaves rather than its flowers.

Description

  • Leaves: The standout feature is the deep brown to reddish-brown, velvety leaves adorned with striking, metallic gold or copper veins. The leaf surface often shimmers when viewed under light, giving a jewel-like effect.
  • Growth Habit: Low-growing and terrestrial, forming compact clumps. Ideal for shaded indoor settings or terrariums.
  • Flowers: Produces small, delicate, white or pale yellow flowers on upright spikes. While charming, the blooms are secondary to the foliage in ornamental value.

Care Requirements

  • Light: Prefers low to moderate, indirect light—direct sun can scorch the leaves.
  • Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (60–80%), making it excellent for terrariums.
  • Water: Keep the substrate consistently moist but not waterlogged. Use distilled or rainwater to prevent mineral buildup.
  • Temperature: Grows best in intermediate to warm temperatures (18–28°C / 65–82°F).
  • Soil: Use a loose, humus-rich, well-draining substrate (such as sphagnum moss mixed with fine bark and perlite).

Special Notes

  • Display: Perfect for terrariums, vivariums, or as a standout piece in a collection of rare foliage plants.
  • Collectibility: Jewel orchids like the ‘Leyli Brown’ hybrid are prized by collectors for their unique and luxurious appearance.
